Niedersachsen has a distinctive supplier industry around the Northern German plants of Airbus and Premium Aerotec. Each Airbus aircraft is today in parts "Made in Niedersachsen". Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of Niedersachsen's aviation industry as suppliers.
In the North-East / metropolitan region of Hamburg, a high affinity to Airbus' end line production in Hamburg as well as to CFRP structural engineering in Stade can be observed. Industry segments include structural engineering, CFRP lightweight construction, engineering, cabin design and equipment, manufacturing and automation technology, tooling and mechanical engineering. In addition to Airbus and Premium Aerotec the leading supplier of cabin electronics products, KID Systeme GmbH and CTC GmbH (full-service partner for efficient series production of composite materials) are also important players in this region of Niedersachsen.
In the North-West / metropolitan region Bremen-Oldenburg, the focus is on structural engineering and manufacturing equipment (oriented to Airbus wing production as well as A400M structural production in Bremen, Airbus fuselage assembly (CFRP and aluminum) in Nordenham, structural metal and manufacturing equipment production at Premium Aerotec in Varel and small and sheet metal parts production in Bremen). Industry segments include structural engineering, CFRP joining processes, automation, production equipment manufacturing, plant and mechanical engineering and tooling. Other important Niedersachsen-based companies of the supplier industry in this region are the "hidden champions" such as Aljo Aluminium-Bau Jonuscheit GmbH (specialist for components for the aerospace industry made of aluminum) and Deharde GmbH (supplier of high-precision individual parts and assemblies) as well as the pioneer in the automation of high-precision assembly processes for the aerospace industry Broetje-Automation GmbH.
In the South / In the metropolitan region of Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen-Wolfsburg, the focus is on large-scale research (e.g. DLR Braunschweig and Göttingen) and MRO (e.g. MTU Maintenance Hannover). Industry segments include materials (e.g. Arconic Extrusions Hannover GmbH) and automation technology (e.g. Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover).
